Why Students Transition

First Time in College (freshmen) students will transition to college advising when they meet the specific academic requirements for their major that need to be completed during the first year of enrollment.  This transition to college advising allows students to gain more specific guidance in understanding academic requirements for their major and with academic planning to support timely progress toward completion of their degree.

College advisors also provide information to help students understand academic policies in their college and major department and assist the college and the university in certifying degree completion.  College advisors can also connect students to the faculty of their major department, who can serve as valuable mentors, provide research and service learning opportunities, and share programmatic resources related to students' majors.
