Dr. Thomas has a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology which he received from The Union Institute. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Thomas served as a police officer, and retired from the Gainesville Police Department after 20 years of service. As a police officer, his assignments included: Patrol, Detective, Street Crimes, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Community Policing and Training. Dr. Thomas is a certified expert in the Use of Force and his research interests include: police ethics, victimology, serial homicide, and inmate populations. Dr. Thomas serves as editor for a book series in Forensic Psychology for Praeger Publishing. He also serves as an editor for several journals. Finally, because of Dr. Thomas' research interests and experience, he was appointed as a Senior Research Fellow with the Police Foundation.
