Teaching Interests:
Restoration and Eighteenth-century British Literature and Culture; The Rise of the Novel; Gendered Authorship; British Literature and Culture of the Romantic Period

Research Interests:
Eighteenth-century novels and representations of architectural space; Women's literary history; Representations of gender and rank; Narrative theory

My current project focuses on how the plots of eighteenth-century novels are essentially bound to and determined by specific spaces. For example, I am interested in how common architectural features of eighteenth-century homes, like gardens or back staircases, serve as setting in which characters can interact in ways prohibited by the strictures of the typical social spaces of the drawing room or dining room.
