Michael Zion is the Principal Trombone of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra since joining the orchestra in 1990. He received a B.M. Education degree from the Indiana University School of Music and a M.M. in Trombone Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

He is a member of the Naples Philharmonic Brass Quintet, which received first prize at the Summit Brass International Brass Competition and runner-up at the Narbonne, France, International Brass Quintet Competition. He performed as principal trombone with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on their tour of Japan and the Far East.  He has performed with many other ensembles including The Summit Brass Ensemble, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Sarasota Orchestras, The Boston Pops and Boston Symphony Orchestras, the New Hampshire Symphony, Springfield Symphony, and the Rhode Island Symphony, and many other orchestras.

He has enjoyed working with a wide range of students in various organizations both as a clinician, coach, and private teacher. These include The Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Massachusetts Wind Ensemble, and The Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.    

His teachers include Joe Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic, Norman Bolter, former Second Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Doug Yeo, Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Michael Mulchay, Second Trombonist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Frank Crisafulli, Ed Kleinharmmer, and Arnold Jacobs, the former Second Trombone, Bass Trombone, and Tubist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
