Dr. Shawn Keller earned his B.S. and M.S. of Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University, earning Honors in Criminal Justice. Dr. Keller joined FGCU in 2012 after teaching at Sam Houston State University for 3 years where he received an award for Outstanding Leadership in 2009. In 2013, he was appointed Program Leader for the undergraduate criminal justice program at FGCU.

Dr. Keller primarily researches and specializes in biosocial criminology, which focuses on the interaction between biological, psychological, and sociological constructs that predict criminal behavior. Dr. Keller has been involved with several research projects that collected information on heart rate, Buccal swabs for DNA, and Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) readings. In addition, Dr. Keller is conducting research on the effects of technology and its influence on criminal behavior and activity. Currently, Dr. Keller is looking into violent first person shooters and whether they desensitize people to the sound of gunshots. Dr. Keller's other research interests include criminal justice policy and program evaluation, criminology, and neighborhood correlates of crime.
