Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Physics web site. The Chemistry and Physics Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University Florida is a flourishing academic department focused on student success and preparing students for future careers.
We offer four degree programs and two minors. The four year degree programs include: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in chemistry, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in chemistry, a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry (B.S.) and a Bachelor of Science in forensic science (B.S.). In addition we offer minors in chemistry and/or physics. Our graduates have been admitted to top graduate programs and medical schools around the country.
Our programs have been designed to provide an opportunity to learn the experimental skills used by practicing scientists. Coursework in the programs include extensive laboratory work in order to provide students with practical experience. Students interpret and analyze experimental data from a broad range of instrumentation, including high-field NMR (500 MHz), LC-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, GC, FT-IR, UV/Vis and a variety of other research-caliber instruments. Students are encouraged to gain undergraduate research experience with a faculty mentor in all programs. Our majors enjoy very close contact with their professors, working with them to explore areas of common interest, participating in student research projects, and then taking the next step in their career with a solid foundation.
We welcome you to browse through our website. Our distinguished faculty members are eager to talk to you about our programs and courses. If you require additional information, please feel free to contact the Chemistry and Physics main office at (239)590-1878.
