Brandon Robertson, M.M.

Brandon L. Robertson is a rising upright/electric bassist originally from Tampa, FL. At the age of ten, Brandon began taking bass lesson in the fifth grade. Later that year, he was accepted into the Hillsborough County Elementary All-County Orchestra. Brandon knew then he would become a professional musician one day.  During his years in high school, Brandon became very interested in playing jazz. In 2003, Brandon received "most outstanding soloist" in the San Francisco High School Jazz Competition, which his high school jazz band earned first place.

After attending Florida State University College of Music in 2004, Brandon receive his B.A. in Music Performance, studying jazz and classical with bass professors Rodney Jordan and Melanie Punter in 2009. During his time at Florida State, Brandon was involved in several ensembles which included the FSU Philharmonic, University Symphony Orchestra,  FSU Jazz Ensemble & Combo, FSU Salsa Florida, and the FSU Blues Lab.

In 2009, Brandon became a member of the Florida-based jazz trio The Zach Bartholomew Trio. Brandon would embark on his first professional sting on the Princess Cruise ship to Europe, Fall of 2010. In 2011, Brandon had the honor of being part of the exclusive inaugural band to perform in the Inaugural Ceremony for the Governor of Florida, Rick Scott. In 2012, Brandon released his first album with the Zach Bartholomew Trio entitled "Out of This Town", which received notable reviews from jazz critics.

Aside from being an active musician, Brandon is also an advocate in Jazz Education. In the last five years, Brandon has presented jazz clinics, workshops, and guest performances in schools throughout Florida, and taught at the Florida State University summer jazz camps for middle school and high school.

Brandon has performed with notable acts such as Marcus Roberts, Teddy Adams, Longineau Parsons, Jason Marsalis, Marcus Printup (Member of the JALC Orchestra), Nick Finzer, Bill Peterson, Dan Miller (Former Member of The Harry Connick Jr. Big Band) , Lew Del Gatto (Former Member of the SNL Band), Patricia Dean, Thomas Heflin, Leon Anderson, vocalist Carmen Bradford (Singer for The Count Basie Orchestra), and the famous Count Basie Orchestra led by director Scotty Barnhart.

Brandon received his M.M. in Jazz Studies from Florida State University Spring of 2016. Currently, Brandon is the Professor of Jazz Studies & Director of the FGCU Basketball Band at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL.  Brandon also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Double Bass at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton, GA. Brandon is now a member of the Dan Miller Quartet, and often performs with the popular Southwest Florida Big Band "Stardust Memories" led by multi-instrumentalist Craig Christman.  Brandon continues to perform regularly throughout the north and southeastern part of the US with various jazz, blues, and pop acts.
