Mrs. Evans received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, her Masters of Education at Florida Atlantic University and her Specialist Degree coursework in Educational Leadership at Nova University. She has had articles published in Orchestra News, The Instrumentalist, Florida Music Director and American String Teacher. Mrs. Evans was a founding member of the Naples Philharmonic and played violin in the orchestra for five years.
Judy Evans was the orchestra director at Pine Ridge Middle and Barron Collier High Schools (Naples) for twenty seven years and Margate Middle School (Ft. Lauderdale) for nine years. Orchestras under her direction have performed in Australia, New Zealand, Washington D.C., and Carnegie Hall, NY. Her orchestras have performed for national MENC and ISME conferences. In 2000, Mrs. Evans started an Early Childhood At-risk Music Program at Lake Park Elementary School in Naples sponsored by the Education Foundation of Collier County. The five year old students received violin lessons twice a week. The grant and project were in connection with brain research and school readiness.
Mrs. Evans is Past President of the Florida Orchestra Association and the Florida American String Teachers Association with NSOA, Past National Secretary of the American String Teachers Association, Past Executive Secretary of the Florida Orchestra Association and past Publications Editor of the National School Orchestra Association. Judy has received FMEA’s 1995 Florida Music Educator of the Year Award, Collier County 1996 Golden Apple Teacher, Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music 1997 Alumni Achievement Award, and the 2004 Florida Outstanding String Educator Award from the American String Teacher’s Association.
Mrs. Evans is currently working as a consultant for K-12 Orchestra Programs. In 2008, Mrs. Evans established and coordinates Enhance Instruction Through Music at the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. Forty-eight four and five year old children are taught violin by FGCU string education majors. In the 2009-10 school year, a national grant enabled a Mariachi program to be added to Pinecrest Elementary School in Immokalee.
Mrs. Evans continues to serve on local, state and national music education committees. Currently she is on the national American String Teachers Association Curriculum Committee and the Florida Orchestra Association Sight Reading Committee.
