Professional Testing Requirements


B.M.E. candidates need to demonstrate a proficiency in three areas of expertise: 

General Knowledge, Professional Education, and Music Education in order to be considered for teacher certification in the State of Florida.  Tests in these areas are offered on a regular basis and the suggested timeline for taking these tests is as follows:

  • Test of General Knowledge (Code – 082) - Before completion of first year of program
  • Test of Professional Education (Code -083) - Upon completion of MUE 2040, EDF 2005, and EDF 2085
  • Music Education (028) - Upon completion of all music methods/core courses (i.e., theory, history, conducting) and professional education courses and, if possible, PRIOR to student teaching.
