The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is designed to prepare graduates with the advanced nursing knowledge and leadership skills to improve health care outcomes and to provide evidence-based nursing across diverse health care settings and systems. The curriculum focuses on providing nurses with the solid science foundation needed to enhance critical reasoning judgment in the management of complex health care situations. Core and specialty courses for the DNP provide knowledge, skills and attributes essential for fully accountable practice in today's health care environment. Emphasis is on innovative and evidence-based nursing practice to meet the demands associated with the increasing complexity of the health care system, improving the safety and quality of patient care delivery, and influencing health care policy.

The DNP will include both full-time and part-time plans of study to meet the needs of working nurses.  Graduates of the BSN to DNP program are eligible to seek national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Program of Study: The BSN to DNP consists of 81 credits that can be completed in 8 semesters of full-time study or 11 semesters of part-time study.


The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Florida Gulf Coast University is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791.  Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.
