Program Description

This program offers four options

  1. Resort and Hospitality Management (RHM) major with no concentration
  2. RHM major with a concentration in Event Management.
  3. RHM major with a concentration in Restaurant and Club Management
  4. RHM major with a concentration in Spa Management

The curriculum, developed by academic and industry leaders, is uniquely focused on the essential knowledge needed to manage the complex operations of multi-million dollar resort and private club properties. With over 40 top rated resorts and 160 private clubs nearby, the program has the commitment of top industry professionals with both academic credentials and industry experience to teach classes. Students build their résumés by completing 250 hours of industry experience prior to the 1000 hours of internship experience in a chosen area of hospitality interest. Internship sites are available at a variety of hospitality businesses. Mentoring opportunities are fostered through a vast network of industry partners.

Through internship experiences and course selections from a defined list of electives, students can focus their studies on any of the following topics: Event Management, Spa Management, Restaurant and Club Management, and Resort and Hospitality Management. Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
  • Successfully complete 1000 hours of internship.
  • Students selecting a concentration must focus the internship within the concentration area.
  • Complete and document 250 hours of hospitality industry experience prior to enrolling in HFT 3945 Resort & Hosp. Internship I.
  • Earn a grade of C or higher in the common prerequisites and required courses in the major.
  • Complete a minimum of 120 credits with at least 48 hours at the upper division (3-4000 level).
  • At least 30 of the last 60 credits must be earned at FGCU.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
  • Satisfy college-level skills and foreign language entrance requirements.

  • Satisfy Civic Literacy requirement.
