Presentations and panel discussions on new ideas and trends in planning and development. The Symposium will feature two nationally-respected keynote speakers on the changing patterns of commercial real estate development. Robert Gibbs is acclaimed for his innovative methods in applying modern trends to commercial development in town centers and historic cities. David Dixon is a leader in planning new suburban downtowns and building livable, resilient communities. The program will also include commentary from local dignitaries, a regional economic overview, and an interactive panel discussion with builders, developers, commercial real estate experts, and government agencies.

The growth of “Big Data” has created demand for skilled individuals in information systems and business intelligence.

The MSISA program prepares students for leadership positions in which they can move beyond managing a business to improving it through information technology and business intelligence.

2017 LCOB Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year
*** Amy Ridgway ***

Amy Ridgway, LCOB 2017 Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year

Amy graduated Magna Cum Laude from FGCU in 2015 with a B.S. degree in Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and also was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society. In 2016, as a graduate student, she was selected to attend the Beta Gamma Sigma Global Leadership Summit in Dallas, Texas where her team took first place in the Go Energy Strategy Case Competition. Amy is currently enrolled in the MBA program while also working full time as Program Coordinator for the LCOB Institute for Entrepreneurship. As Program Coordinator for the Institute, Amy coaches more than 80 student entrepreneurs each semester in the Runway Program, an FGCU incubator program designed to help students start their own businesses, and the CEO Academy, a one-week entrepreneurial boot camp for high school students.

2017 LCOB Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the Year
*** Lucas Edelman ***

Lucas Edelman, LCOB 2017 Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the Year

Luke is pursuing a B.S. degree in PGA Golf Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship. In 2013, Luke began working with the US Green Building Council as a volunteer team leader on a newly proposed LEED initiative. Over more than three years, Luke and his team developed a certification system for golf facilities that measures the environmental “friendliness” of the facility, including water usage, carbon footprints and habitat conservation. He has also volunteered countless hours for the US Building Green Council and the First Tee of Lee County. Most recently, he interned as the Marketing and Business Development Manager for the film project “Tommy’s Honour”, a major motion picture focusing on the founding family of golf, starring Sam Neill and Jason Connery.

Dr. Kaitlyn Harger of the LCOB Economics faculty has done statistical studies on the subject of prison tattoos. Her research is discussed in The Economist, one of the most respected publications in the field.

Entrepreneurship - The Runway Program

The Institute For Entrepreneurship's Runway Program provides future business owners with the resources, tools and experience they need to succeed. FGCU students develop cutting-edge companies at the Emergent Technologies Institute using advanced prototyping machinery, including 3-D printers, computers and high-end cameras. Students in the Fall 2016 class produced an Instagram video about the program.
