Mission Statement The FGCU Physical Plant is dedicated to provide resources and to constantly maintain all university buildings, grounds, and equipment that are fundamental to a healthy academic environment. The Physical Plant team is committed to maintaining an atmosphere that will foster pride, teamwork, and cooperation among the university faculty, staff, students, and visitors. 

Job Description:

The Physical Plant has several projects and programs intended to increase environmental awareness and stewardship on campus.  Help is needed to both start new initiatives and to continue projects that have been implemented; evaluations and research are also needed to determine success of implemented plans.  Projects include, but are not limited to: building inspections, tree inventory and tree mapping on campus, electricity and water monitoring, marketing campaigns, and building relationships with student organizations, faculty and administrative staff.   Students will count trees in certain segments on campus, identifying the different types of trees, research benefits to wildlife and air quality and post results on webpage.  They will also perform room inspections checking for phantom loads and excessive electricity use.  Students will monitor recycling efforts on campus and note where additional receptacles or signage is necessary and propose changes to increase compliance.  Students will also research other Universities to find additional efforts to encourage and increase environmental sustainability on campus and in the surrounding community.  Student work is intended to instill best practices in a hands-on manner that students will take to their field of practice, career location and home environment.
