RSVP

All faculty are invited to participate in the commencement ceremony. Faculty may participate either as members of the academic procession or as marshals involved in directing graduates to the stage to receive their diploma. An all faculty email will be sent out 6 weeks before the ceremony requesting your RSVP if you plan to attend. It is very important that we have your RSVP as this is critical for planning purposes since it allows us to order enough refreshments for your enjoyment and have enough chairs available on the arena floor. Instructions, information, and a parking pass will also be emailed to you in the week prior to Commencement.

Regalia

Wear your full academic regalia, including, cap, gown, and hood. If you do not own regalia, you may rent or purchase it through the Bookstore. Orders must be placed at least one month prior to the ceremony to ensure delivery.

Parking

Parking for faculty is located in the Alico Arena lot. You must have your faculty parking pass in order to park in this lot. The parking passes are emailed out the week before commencement to those faculty who RSVP’d.

Arrival and Line-Up
  • Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to the ceremony. This will allow time for everyone to check in, robe, and line-up in a timely manner to assist with having the ceremony run smoothly.
  • Report to the Alico Arena Fitness Center located on the first floor for the summer and fall ceremonies. Report to the Alico Arena Auxiliary Gym located on the second floor for the spring ceremonies.
  • Light refreshments will be served.
  • There will be security personnel that will remain in the faculty line-up area to watch over personal belongings. Please do not bring purses or personal belongings with you to the arena floor, as you may not be returning to your same seat after the faculty greeting line.

Processional

A commencement staff member will line up the faculty members and guide them when it is time to proceed. The faculty march down the center aisle and proceed to the faculty seating area, as directed by the floor ushers.

Greeting Line

Faculty will form greeting lines in the back of the arena, at various times during the ceremony where they will briefly congratulate graduates. Graduates and faculty will then return to their seating area. Please accept the direction of the floor ushers as they guide you back to your seats.

Doctoral Students and Committee Chairs

Committee chairs for doctoral candidates will accompany their students in the procession and sit in the first rows on the arena floor. Marshals and staff will guide you at the appropriate time to the stage. At stage center, the candidate will be hooded by the committee chair and the Provost. The committee chair will exit the stage with the candidate, or if they have more than one candidate, they will step aside to await the next candidate(s) to hood.

Recessional

At the end of the ceremony, the President will dismiss participants. As the band plays the recessional music, the platform party will leave the stage, followed by the faculty, and graduates. All are then free to leave.

**Special note Florida Gulf Coast University congratulates all graduating seniors and we want this commencement to be a very proud, memorable, and pleasant occasion for all attendees, including graduates, family and friends. We have been advised that some among our graduates have allergic reactions to latex and strong chemical fragrances. Alico Arena currently has a policy prohibiting balloons in the arena and will not allow them to be brought into the arena for the commencement ceremony. Additionally, in an effort to provide the most comfortable experience for all participants and guests, we also ask that attendees refrain from the use of latex and scented fragrances during the Commencement ceremonies.
