Florida Gulf Coast University offers benefits to Faculty, Administrative & Professional (A&P), and Support Personnel (SP) employees. These benefits may include paid annual and sick leave, holidays, state and university sponsored insurance programs, and retirement. Due to the temporary classification of OPS and Adjunct Faculty positions, these employees are not eligible to participate in university sponsored benefit programs.
New Faculty, Administrative & Professional (A&P) and Support Personnel (SP) employees have only the FIRST 60 CALENDAR DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT to enroll in the insurance plans. After the initial new hire enrollment period, employees may only enroll or make changes to their coverage during the annual Open Enrollment period in the fall. You may be allowed to make certain changes to your coverage if you experience a Qualifying Status Change (QSC) event (e.g. marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, etc.). You must notify the People First Service Center within 60 days of the QSC.
Employees are eligible for health insurance coverage on the first day of the month following their date of hire. However, the effective date of coverage will depend on the date the enrollment is completed and the required premiums are paid. The effective dates of coverage are always the first of a month and no coverage will be updated with the insurance carrier until premiums are received by People First.
Enrollment in your state sponsored benefits is performed on the People First Website or by calling (866) 663-4735. Prior to enrolling in your benefits, we suggest that you attend one of our Benefits Orientation sessions or refer to the Employee Benefits Guide for instructions. In order to access the People First website, you will need your People First ID and password that will be mailed to your home following your first week of work.
Employees who have dependents covered by one of our health insurance plans will receive a letter this week from the Florida Department of Management Services State Group Insurance requesting documentation to verify that dependents enrolled in the health plan meet the eligibility guidelines. You will be required to submit documentation to a third party administrator, HMS, to demonstrate the eligibility. Please respond to this letter and submit the information by May 10, 2018.

Please be sure to read your letter and respond as appropriate. Documentation will only be accepted by HMS and no other entity such as People First.
