As Honors College Director, it is a joy to work with students, faculty, and staff to help students make the most of their FGCU experience and achieve their long-term goals. I am originally from Richmond, KY with degrees in English from the University of South Carolina (Ph.D.), Eastern Kentucky University (MA), and the University of Kentucky (BA). My primary area of research is the culture of the American South, particularly its music, literature, and religion. I am currently writing a book on the music history of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and I serve on the board of directors for the new Clarksdale Museum of Music and Culture. I love spending time with my family and exploring the natural beauty of Southwest Florida.
Being a member of the Honors College team has been such as great experience, even though I have only been at FGCU since February 2016. As Office Manager, I do work typically behind the scenes: maintaining the Honors budget, organizing travel for faculty and students, as well as managing the Honors Development Grants. I came to southwest Florida from southwest Pennsylvania, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a Minor in Leadership Studies from California University of Pennsylvania, where I was also Director of the Internship Center. It was there that I found my passion – working with and helping students reach their potential academically as well as professionally, which is why I am so happy to be here at FGCU working with our outstanding students.
