Housing and Residence Life

Special Interest Housing

The underlying principle of special interest housing at FGCU is to link residence halls with academic (Living-Learning Communities) or general interest (Theme Housing Communities), and to create communities of residents around these shared interests and goals. Special interest communities at FGCU are comprised of students who live together in a residence hall and share a common interest or purpose that serves as the focal point of the community. Each special interest community is assigned a Resident Assistant who has been specifically trained to work with the community members and to assist them in developing community norms that promote their interests.
