The Office of the General Counsel (GCO) provides legal services to and represents Florida Gulf Coast University, its Board of Trustees, the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, Inc., and the Florida Gulf Coast University Financing Corporation. We support the mission of the University by handling all legal matters generated by the activities of these entities and by initiating legal action to forestall problems and manage risks. We educate our clients regarding the legal implications of policy and operational decisions, solve legal problems, and facilitate transactions in accordance with the highest standards of integrity and ethics. The attorneys render legal advice to University Trustees, the President, officers, and administrators and represent the University in all administrative and judicial proceedings.

The mission of the Office of the General Counsel is to support the strategic plan of Florida Gulf Coast University by providing legal services to the University community and its direct support organizations. Such services will be provided proactively when possible and will aid in establishing principles to facilitate the fulfillment of University-wide goals. Legal services provided through the General Counsel’s Office include assistance with: contract review and other commercial activities, interlocal agreements, student disciplinary issues, the development of policies and regulations, and potential adversarial proceedings (judicial or administrative).
