On March 29, 2012 more than 300 trustees, faculty, staff, students, and invited guests gathered in the courtyard of FGCU's new health professions building to celebrate the official grand opening of Dr. Elaine Nicpon Marieb Hall.
Of Dr. Marieb's generous $5 million leadership gift to the university, FGCU president, Wilson G. Bradshaw said, "Talented, committed, well-educated and trained health professionals provide critical services for our community and our nation. Dr. Marieb's investment in FGCU's health professions programs ensures that our students and faculty study, teach, and learn in a superb facility."
Marieb Hall opened its doors to faculty and students in January 2012, and provides state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories for teaching, learning, and research.
In speaking about the process of choosing FGCU for her investment, Dr. Marieb said:
"When I began to search for a gifting and naming opportunity, I [was] looking at four criteria very important to me as a teacher.
"First, the college or university's goal is to be highly ranked for its academics. There is little question that FGCU is working diligently toward that end. Furthermore, I am very impressed by its faculty and administration.
"Second, the institution needs to be actively growing and forward-looking in its curricula.... The physical growth of the campus in just a few years has been astounding.
"Third, its physical facilities have to be at the cutting edge for teaching effectiveness. FGCU's facilities in Marieb Hall are breathtaking...they are the best I've seen, and I've seen a lot.
"Fourth, the faculty, curricula, and facilities must ... produce graduates that will be highly sought after and well paid...
FGCU and Marieb Hall have handily met my criteria...I knew that this was the place."
