Office of New Student Programs

Welcome New Eagles!

The mission of the Office of New Student Programs is to assist incoming students and their families in making a smooth transition to the university setting by providing accurate, useful, and timely information that focuses on the resources of the institution as well as a complete understanding of the factors that impact success in college.  The services of the office include orientation programming, academic counseling, and parent/family outreach that are purposeful, caring, and student-centered.  Based upon theoretical models of college student development, services are educationally-based, technologically enhanced, and delivered with courtesy and respect for all.

The importance of designing, implementing and assessing transition services for first-year and transfer students and their families has never been greater.  The tasks associated with adjusting to college life are challenging for every new student, and can be overwhelming without adequate preparation and support by the university to help them develop an accurate understanding of what it means to be a college student, as well as realistic expectations of what college life will be like, both inside and outside of the classroom.

In order to achieve our primary goal of assisting first-year and transfer students in making a successful transition to Florida Gulf Coast University, the Office of New Student Programs utilizes a theoretical orientation that focuses specifically on college student development while incorporating best practices and research findings in the fields of orientation, transition, retention, and academic advising.  It is our goal to provide the programs and services our incoming students need to be successful, while using proper means of programmatic assessment to improve our services.

We wish you all the best and much good luck in your career at FGCU!
