Press Release

Florida Gulf Coast University Center for Positive Aging

FORT MYERS, FL - An organizational meeting of interested representatives to the new advisory board of the Southwest Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging at Florida Gulf Coast University is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., April 19 in Reed Hall Room 247.

Representatives from government agencies, public service agencies, health services agencies, business, the arts community, education programs, private communities, as well as political figures and older consumers from Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties are invited. Interested parties may attend. The purpose of the meeting is to find people to serve and to appoint committees for fundraising, development and other pertinent areas.

The Center serves as the epicenter for interdisciplinary efforts to serve and provide for the various needs of the growing population of older persons in the five-county area. The Center's mission is to provide interdisciplinary education, training, research and service within the University environment to the urban, rural and reservation community areas surrounding the University.

The Center's emphasis on positive aging is a centerpiece of collaborative teaching and research partnership efforts between FGCU's College of Health Professions and College of Professional Studies.

For further information, contact the two co-directors of the Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging, Dr. Linda Buettner and Dr. Myra Marcus at (941) 590-7852.
