FGCU Sponsors Presentation on Bioterrorism with Dr. Mark A. Neuman

FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Department of Environmental Health, Molecular and Clinical Sciences invites the public and media to attend “The Emerging Threat of Bioterrorism: A Medical and Public Health Perspective” with Southwest Florida’s foremost authority Mark A. Neuman, Ph.D., ABMM, FAAM from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 in Howard Hall Room 111.

Neuman is the Director of Infectious Diseases and Immunology Division at Diagnostic Services Inc. Laboratories (DSI), an entity of the NCH Healthcare System.

“Dr. Neuman holds his doctorate in medical microbiology and immunology from the University of Georgia and completed a residency and fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” said associate professor Dr. Jo Ann Wilson and coordinator of the event. “He has extensive experience and expertise in biological warfare preparedness and action, and what our nation and state are doing. Dr. Neuman is a member of national task forces and has spent considerable time working with other professionals at the CDC in this area.”

Wilson originally invited Neuman to the FGCU campus to provide education to her University Colloquium class on bioterrorism as part of environmental health discussions, but later requested permission to open the presentation to the public and other FGCU community members because of widespread interest in the subject.

As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as the presentation on the threat of bioterrorism.
