Students at FGCU Celebrate African-American Heritage Month

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to celebrate African-American Heritage Month throughout February with various free events scheduled around campus. The Multicultural Student Center and Organization of Students of African Descent are sponsoring the events. Groups should call in advance to reserve space.


Read-In: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Sunday, Feb. 3, at North Lake Village Pool.
Students will read books about or written by African-Americans

Opening Ceremony: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m - Monday, Feb. 4, at Student Services Plaza. Entertainment, vendors, multicultural clubs and organizations

Movie Night: 8 p.m. - Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Griffin Hall. “Separate but Equal”

Educational Panel: 6 p.m. - Monday, Feb. 11     TBA. Students, faculty, staff and community members will discuss issues about minorities and education

NAACP Membership/Voter Registration Drive: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Friday, Feb. 15, Student Services Plaza

JAWAD:     7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Friday, Feb. 15, Howard Hall Room 111
Professional musician presents rainbow-colored sounds

Stepshow/Dance:     8 p.m. - Friday, Feb. 22,Howard Hall Room 111. Entertainment, dancing and cultural food

Lecture by the author of “Between Brothers”
