Krause Exhibit Showcases Cuban History in Mixed Media

FORT MYERS, FL -Dorothy Simpson Krause of Marshfield Hills, Mass., will be showing Cuba: History Rewritten in the Florida Gulf Coast University Library Art Gallery Sunday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, March 17. An artist reception will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 and the artist will speak informally about her work at 2:30 p.m.

Krause’s exhibition will include one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces that are 12 x 12 inch diptychs. All are ink jet prints combined with traditional art materials. Krause is a painter, collage artist and printmaker who incorporates digital mixed media into her art. In February 2001, she traversed the island of Cuba, documenting her trip through photographs and a visual journal.

“I found a history of Cuba published in Havana in 1925. I began to focus on the differing perspectives authors bring to their accounts and how time and political persuasion affect, counteract and obliterate viewpoints,” Krause said. “The pages from this and other books and periodicals became the primary components in my journal; a palimpsest, written, drawn, erased, crossed out and reworked repeatedly with remnants of erasures still possible.”

Krause’s work is exhibited regularly in galleries and museums and featured in more than three-dozen current periodicals and books. She is Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts College of Art where she founded the Computer Arts Center. A frequent speaker at conferences and symposia, she is also a consultant to manufacturers and distributors of fine arts products.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. All events in the gallery are open free of charge to the public. The gallery is located on the FGCU campus east of I-75 exits 19 and 20.
