Canterbury School Students Share Their Insight; Teach EMBA Class How They Run a Business

FORT MYERS, FL - Six pupils from Canterbury School will “teach” their collective business insight to the Executive Master’s in Business Administration class at Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday, April 26 at the FGCU Center for Leadership and Innovation in Bonita Springs.

History teacher Dan VanCampen and his students will explain to the EMBA class of 2003 how they became successful in their classroom economics studies with the “Pelaties” monetary system, a classroom incentive and investment method VanCampen created as a teaching tool.

The students become inventive with the learning process, forming corporations to increase their buying power. Students earn currency for good behavior, test scores, effort and attitude. Bad behavior warrants a fine.

In addition to presenting their classroom economy, the middle school students will describe what they must do to be successful in managing a student-run business, including juggling full-time school, homework and running the business.

In return, the Canterbury students will receive a presentation of an EMBA team analysis of a specific business case.

For more information about Friday’s visit or the CLI, contact CLI director Doug Steele at (941) 948-1816.
