FGCU Names Permanent Director for Charlotte Center

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University names Pamella A. Seay of Punta Gorda as permanent director of the FGCU Charlotte Center beginning Aug. 7.

“I welcome this opportunity to serve both my university and my home. It represents a wonderfully exciting challenge,” Seay says. “It is my goal to work closely with the academic world, service organizations, and the business and governmental communities of Charlotte County to find the best ways that FGCU can serve their needs.”

The director is responsible for setting up and operating the FGCU office; scheduling and promoting courses and programs; and recruiting students and facilitating the registration process.

“I am delighted that Pam Seay has accepted the key position of directing the FGCU Charlotte Center,” President William C. Merwin says. “The tremendous support shown for this Charlotte County initiative will be complemented by Pam’s enthusiasm for establishing an FGCU presence in the community where she lives. Her higher education, government and community experience uniquely qualify her to serve in this role as ambassador and liaison between FGCU and Charlotte County.”

The director also speaks to civic groups and community leaders to promote FGCU in Charlotte County and serves as FGCU’s link in representing the University’s views to Charlotte citizens and in turn, communicating Charlotte residents’ ideas to the FGCU administration.

“Florida Gulf Coast University is an outstanding educational institution and can become a vital asset to Charlotte County. This is a long-term commitment. It requires patience and dedication. Especially as a Charlotte County resident, I am looking forward to this partnership between the community and the university, where we can share our talents in a unique and successful venture here in Charlotte County,” Seay says.

The position reports to the Dean for Graduate Studies and Continual Learning and is included in the start-up funding the community is supplying to launch the FGCU Charlotte Center.

Seay is currently associate professor and chair of the Division of Justice Studies in the College of Professional Studies at FGCU. She began her career at FGCU as assistant professor and internship coordinator of Justice Studies after leaving Edison Community College.

Seay earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989 and is a member of the Charlotte County Bar Association.

A resident of Charlotte County since 1993, Seay is presently serving as vice chairwoman of the Charlotte Regional Medical Center board and has been a trustee since 2000. She is a Charlotte County Airport Authority commissioner, a member of the Arts and Humanities Council, member of the ECC Criminal Justice and Legal Assisting/Paralegal programs Advisory Boards, and legal advisor to the Police Athletic League.

Seay is an alternate member of the Charlotte County Punta Gorda Metropolitan Planning Organization since 1997 and an annual mock trial juror for Charlotte County Schools competition since 1993.
