Deiros Signs Three Recruits in Early Signing Period

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s Coach Dave Deiros announces the signing of three graduating high school seniors for his softball team next year. All three players are very athletic and will have an impact at various positions next season.

Melissa Gould is a 5'6" outfielder from Lehigh High School. She is a four-year varsity starter and will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class. Exceptionally fast and athletic, she is greatly improving her tools at the plate. Gould covers lots of ground in the outfield and throws very well. She has a career batting average of .382 and on-base percentage of .491. She plans to study nursing at FGCU.

Heather McChesney is a 5'4" pitcher and Third Baseman, also from Lehigh. She is a four-year varsity starter and will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class. One of the reasons the Lightning have been so successful over the last three years is because McChesney pitched every significant game over that span, including 32 wins, 15 losses with a 0.36 ERA, and 408 strikeouts. She was named Lee County Player of the Year, All-Area Team each of the last three years, and All-State First Team and Second Team over the last two years, respectively. She plans to study physical therapy at FGCU.

Annie Voyles is a 5'10" pitcher and catcher from Trenton High School in Bronson, Fla. She will graduate as one of the top 10 students at THS in 2003. Voyles is Trenton’s Heisman Nominee, has been named to the All-Area Team each of the last three years and has been selected to the All-State First Team the last two seasons. She has been the main pitcher on her high school team each of the last three years but she is also very tough at the plate where she has boasted .400+ batting averages the last two seasons.
