"Certified Public Manager, Level I" Course Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and supervisors from the public sector are invited to attend a four-day course “Certified Public Manager, Level I” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 15, 16, 22 and 23 at the FGCU Broadcast Building Room 111.

The workshop introduces the fundamental concepts and techniques of modern management as applied to a governmental setting. Level I emphasizes goal setting as essential in developing and maintaining a motivated and productive work climate. The course describes and illustrates modern management attitudes, practices and techniques, and focuses on manager-employee relationships. CPM Levels I, II, and III are certified by the Department of Management Services as meeting the requirements and learning objectives of the management components of the Basic Supervisory Skills Training Program.

Jim LaRue is instructor for the program. He is president of LaRue Planning and Management Services and has more than two decades of government management and consulting experience. LaRue’s background includes time spent as a county administrator, assistant county administrator, assistant city manager, zoning administrator and senior planner.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Texas and master’s degrees in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa, and in political science from Memphis State University.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.

As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as administratively hosting the Institute.
