Runners, Walkers Wanted for Miromar Outlets Scholarship Run Feb. 1; Traffic Altered on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway for Event

FORT MYERS, FL - The Sixth Annual Miromar Outlets Scholarship Run to benefit student scholarships at Florida Gulf Coast University affords participants a chance to run or walk for a good cause, and perhaps get a little shopping done on the side. The event begins at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 on the FGCU campus. Registration starts at 7 a.m.

The fundraiser features 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) and 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) point-to-point races starting at the FGCU campus and finishing at Miromar Outlets.

An awards ceremony will follow. Transportation back to FGCU will be available; however, participants are encouraged to park at Miromar Outlets and carpool to the starting line.

All proceeds from the event benefit scholarships for deserving FGCU students. Entry fee is $15 before Thursday, Jan. 30 and $20 thereafter.

Race packets are available in the Miromar Outlets office from noon to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, or at the registration table the day of the event. Entry can also be made online at .

Prizes will be awarded for the top three male and female overall winners; the top male and female masters, grandmasters and senior grandmasters; and the top two male and female overall 5K walkers. New this year, two team awards will be given in the Male and Female, and High School Championship categories. Teams should be registered by Jan. 31.

Age group prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each of 15 divisions: 9 & under, 10-12, 13-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-plus. All participants will receive an official race T-shirt.

In addition to the race, traffic patterns on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, the main thoroughfare to the FGCU campus, will be altered the morning of the event.

Between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., the campus will be accessible only from Ben Hill Parkway south. Exiting from campus will be via the North Access Road onto Ben Hill Griffin Parkway north.
