Public Invited to Hear WWII Oral History; Four D-Day Veterans Give Personal Accounts of Normandy Invasion

FORT MYERS, FL - “Courage in the First Person” is a free World War II Symposium that offers the public a rare chance to hear history from the voices of those who made it. The Florida Gulf Coast University Renaissance Academy and the McDonald Financial Group present the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, March 28 in the Whitaker Hall Sprint Room.

Four D-Day veterans give poignant first-person accounts of the world-changing Normandy invasion from the planning stages to the massive troop movement and its aftermath:

·Arthur Klobe, Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Colonel - first U.S. Army staff officer under Gen. Omar Bradley and a member of the Anglo American Planning Group for D-Day invasion

·Frank Johnson - author of One More Hill and infantry officer in the 1st Division, Omaha Beach

·Ned Putzell - former Naples mayor, and officer and assistant to Gen. William J. “Wild Bill” Donovan in the Defense Intelligence Agency

·Bedford Biles - paratrooper in the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” awarded three Purple Hearts

Peter Thomas, U.S. Army veteran and nationally recognized narrator for Forensic Files on Court TV, the History Channel, Public Broadcasting Service and The Learning Channel, will host the symposium.
