"Effective Presentation Skills" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a one-day course “Effective Presentation Skills” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Professional Development Series from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30 in the Broadcast Building Room 111.

Managers rate “speaking in front of an audience” as one of their greatest fears. A presentation is a great opportunity to inform, persuade and lead, and is one of the keys to success in any field. Whether addressing a staff, council or commission meeting, a community group or a training class, this workshop will help alleviate the fear and further refine skills.


     Understand the positive and negative aspects of nervousness

     Determine the purpose of the presentation

     How to research an audience in advance

     Focus on preferred outcome

     Project confidence and enthusiasm

     Prepare and organize material

     Control the communication process

     Project confidence

Myra Hale is instructor for the program. She has 20 years experience in teaching, training design and presentation. Hale is a full time professor of speech communication at Edison Community College and has taught at Barry University as well. She also provides consulting and training on issues in diversity, presentation skills, needs assessment, facilitation skills, train the trainer and team building.

Hale received a Bachelor of Arts in speech communication and a Master of Arts in organizational communications.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.
