"Achieving Work and Life Balance" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a half-day course “Achieving Work and Life Balance” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Professional Development Series from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13 in the Broadcast Building Room 111.

Employees at every level need skills to manage work and personal lives. The upbeat and practical workshop offers ideas for making lifestyle improvements. Participants will engage in self-assessments, discussions and problem solving, learn about strategies that work and how to overcome barriers, and leave with practical options for making changes and an action plan.

     Complete a work/life balance self-assessment

     Learn how to choose and maintain lifestyle choices

     Define balance - success, habits, tradeoffs

     Decide whole life planning - clarify values and setting priorities

     Develop skills and strategies to achieve a balanced lifestyle

     Learn how to take care of self and eliminate guilt

     Present a model for change

     Participate in a problem solving activity and address barriers and solutions

     Learn how communication affects getting what we need to balance our lives

Bonnie Michaels is instructor for the program. She is an internationally recognized work-life consultant, speaker and author, and president of Managing Work & Family, Inc. For 16 years she has motivated and educated individuals to make changes for a more balanced life. She is co-author of “Solving the Work/Family Puzzle” and her new book “Life Renewal” is based on a year’s journey. She has appeared on CCN and other network news magazine programs and frequently authors articles on work-life issues for magazines, newspapers and trade publications.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.

As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as administratively hosting the Institute.
