FGCU Criminal Justice Student from Naples Wins National Writing Competition

Florida Gulf Coast University President William C. Merwin will recognize criminal justice student from Naples L. Frank Thompson for his achievement in winning the national undergraduate writing competition of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, the American Criminal Justice Association, at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 5 in the President’s office. Thompson’s research manuscript Behavioral Manifestations of Antisocial Personality Disorder Comorbid with Sexual Sadism received first place in competition against 188 colleges and universities in the United States. The LAE Journal will publish the manuscript in fall 2003. Lambda Alpha Epsilon is the national organization of undergraduate and graduate student Criminal Justice majors.

FGCU English Major from Naples Wins National Honor Society Scholarship

The oldest and largest freshman national honor society in America, Phi Eta Sigma, awarded English student from Naples Aimee Allard a $1,000 undergraduate scholarship for academic year 2003-04. Allard maintains a 4.0 grade point average, is a member of the FGCU Honors Program, active in the Student Government Association and has tutored young children in math. She plans to pursue a post-baccalaureate degree in English. Phi Eta Sigma encourages and rewards academic excellence among freshmen in institutions of higher learning. Academic achievement in the freshman year determines lifetime membership.

FGCU Resort and Hospitality Management Major from Naples Wins Scholarship

Newly appointed director of the Resort and Hospitality Management program Sherie Brezina said the Chaine des Rotisseurs, Education Council of Southwest Florida, awarded a scholarship to Resort and Hospitality Management student from Naples Michael DeSantis to support his enrollment in the new program, which will commence fall 2003. The Education Council of Southwest Florida was formed by the Naples and Bonita Bailliages of the Chaine des Rotesseurs to support young people in the form of scholarships, awards, financial incentives and development of skills opportunities in careers of the culinary and hospitality fields.
