Complete Legal Studies Program Now Available at FGCU Charlotte Center

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the complete Legal Studies program is now available through the FGCU Charlotte Center for students to fulfill requirements for the Bachelor of Science without leaving Charlotte County.

This summer, FGCU has several courses at the Charlotte Center including onsite courses Law Office Management, and Courts and Legal Issues. Fall onsite offerings include Introduction to Law, Family Law Issues, and Negligence and Tort Litigation.

Through distance learning, additional courses in the Legal Studies program are available to students.

"Students ideally complete the basic two years of preparation at FGCU or by earning an associate degree at an accredited community college including Edison Community College-Charlotte. They then move into the FGCU Legal Studies program to complete the bachelor's degree," FGCU Legal Studies program coordinator Bob Diotalevi said.

To help students make the seamless move from community college to the FGCU Legal Studies program, FGCU signed articulation agreements with five community colleges around Florida.

The University is actively seeking articulation agreements with several more of Florida's 28 community colleges to help students from all parts of the state.

"One of the benefits of the FGCU program is that students who find they have to relocate to another part of the state or beyond before they have finished the degree can take their credits with them and complete the program online," Diotalevi said.

Members of Charlotte County's legal community teach the onsite courses and are also benefactors when it comes to having a more skilled workforce in their firms and the courts.

"We are delighted at the FGCU Charlotte Center to have the Legal Studies degree program as part of the very foundation of what FGCU is doing here," Charlotte Center director Bob Burns said.

"Legal Studies is a great model in bringing FGCU's bachelor degree programs to Charlotte County by combining traditional face-to-face classes and online technology."
