FGCU Expands School of Nursing Program in Charlotte County

FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University School of Nursing recently added new faculty resources to expand both undergraduate and graduate nursing program activities in Charlotte County.

"Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has already been playing a major role in nursing education in Charlotte County," School of Nursing director Karen Miles said.

"We have had an average of 36 students in undergraduate nursing clinical placements each academic year since 2001 in Charlotte County hospitals and community sites. Our efforts will now expand to include recruiting, advising and some on-site classroom teaching."

Miles said associate director and Charlotte County resident Anne Nolan will coordinate these expanded services.

Additionally, FGCU will offer support for registered nurses seeking the online, three-semester RN-to-BSN accelerated program.

"This is a major FGCU initiative in Charlotte County," FGCU Charlotte Center executive director Robert Burns said. "These services will benefit individuals who live in Charlotte County and want to pursue a professional career in nursing, as well as assist the county in meeting special workforce needs for professional and advanced practice nurses."

Information sessions and consultation with School of Nursing faculty is available at the FGCU Charlotte Center located in the Charlotte County Cultural Center.

Additionally, the FGCU School of Nursing will conduct recruiting and advising in local health care agencies and schools.
