FGCU Hosts Educators Resource, Recruitment Forum for Individuals in Becoming K-12 Teachers
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University hosts the Educators Resource and Recruitment Forum 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8 in the Whitaker Hall Sprint Room for individuals interested in becoming K-12 teachers, especially substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.
The forum includes breakout sessions on topics such as classroom management, the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), an overview of differentiated instruction and an overview of positive behavioral support.
Featured speakers include Tim Ferguson, principal of Shadowlawn Elementary in Collier County, Douglas Carrothers, FGCU College of Education faculty, and Patty O'Grady, Barry University faculty.
School district representatives from Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades and Lee counties will be available to answer questions about recruitment and qualifications.
FGCU's Southwest Florida Comprehensive System of Personnel Development hosts the event to show appreciation of the critical role that substitute teachers and paraprofessionals fill in public education, and to invite those interested in fulltime teaching to explore possibilities.
"Part of our mission at CSPD is to recruit teachers to the exciting field of exceptional student education and we like to continually recognize everyone's contribution to educating our children," CSPD project coordinator Peg Sullivan said.
"We have put together an informative and fun day for these dedicated professionals and encourage those interested in a fulfilling career to participate."
