FGCU Hosts 55th Annual Exhibition of the Florida Artist Group

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University opens the Florida Artist Group 55th Annual Exhibition with a reception 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 3 in the Arts Complex art gallery featuring work by members of Florida's oldest statewide artist-run organization. The exhibit runs through Friday, June 24.

The exhibition features work from all of FLAG's seven regions and includes both two and three-dimensional pieces in a range of media and styles.

FLAG, a non-profit professional organization, provides a showcase for Florida artists through a series of juried exhibitions. The group's purpose is to stimulate attainment of the highest standards of creative art within the State of Florida.

FGCU's Arts Complex art gallery joins a distinguished list of hosting organizations that have housed FLAG exhibitions over the years including The Norton Museum in West Palm Beach, The Ringling Museum in Sarasota, the University of South Florida in Tampa and the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Caroll Michels, juror and author of "How to Survive and Prosper as an Artist, 5th ed.: Selling Yourself Without Selling Your Soul," will award $3,500 in prizes to artists in the exhibition.

In addition, FGCU invites artists and art enthusiasts to attend a free FLAG symposium "How to Survive and Prosper as an Artist" moderated by Michels 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 4 in Arts Complex Room 111. Michels will present a broad range of topics such as how to establish prices for artwork and building immunity to rejection.

Admission is free. The gallery is open to the public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays excluding University holidays. FGCU hosts special hours 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5 in conjunction with the free symposium.
