FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Center for Positive Aging invites professionals who work with older adults with memory loss and lay people to attend a free two-hour workshop with Secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs Carole Green Friday, Oct. 7 in Fort Myers or Naples.

The Naples program is 10 a.m. to noon at Moorings Park. Reservations should be made to (239) 643-9133.

The Fort Myers program is 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cypress Cove. Reservations should be made to (239) 415-5100. Both programs are the same.

Green opens the program for each program. Geriatrician and faculty member Neil Hall of the State University of New York Health Science Medical School in Binghamton presents "Learning from Mrs. G.: The Story of a Woman with Alzheimer's."

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the progression of Alzheimer's through the life of an older adult, detail the types of treatment options available for people with memory loss throughout the course of the disease, and analyze current treatment options for memory care.

The session describes five mentally and physically stimulating programs for older adults worried about memory loss, explains how socially and physically engaging programs can enhance function and reduce decline, provides three positive measurable outcomes for older adults attending the Community of Care programs, and identifies steps to get involved with this type of programming with FGCU support.
