Marketing Educators' Association Names FGCU Professor Educator of the Year

FORT MYERS, FL - The Marketing Educators' Association named Stuart Van Auken, Eminent Scholar and Alico Corporation Chair in Marketing at Florida Gulf Coast University, the MEA Educator of the Year for 2006 during the annual conference in San Francisco last month.

The organization bestows the award annually on an educator who exemplifies excellence in teaching, service and scholarship activities that advance the field of marketing education.

"Dr. Stuart Van Auken is an outstanding educator, a mentor to both students and faculty, and is actively involved and committed to the teaching of marketing," associate professor of Advertising and Marketing Ludmilla Wells said. Wells nominated Van Auken for the award.

Van Auken has been a leader in the field of marketing education for over three decades. During that time he has won numerous teaching, research and service rewards. He was named a Distinguished Teaching Professor, which is a lifetime title, at the University of Louisville and was named a Master Teacher at California State University, Chico. At Chico, he was also the runner-up for the CSU Chico Teacher of the Year Award and was voted the top School of Business graduate teacher.

In 2005, Van Auken received the Senior Faculty Scholarship Excellence Award for lifetime research achievement from FGCU. Among many other awards, he has also been recognized for his service to the three Universities where he has served.

Van Auken's publication record includes more than 40 refereed journal publications and over 75 conference proceedings. He has twice received the MEA Conference top paper award and has published three articles in the Journal of Marketing Education.

He is a long-time supporter of MEA and has served in the officer track as vice president, president-elect and president.

The Marketing Educators' Association,, is the premier international organization for faculty development of the marketing professoriate. The organization's mission is to provide worldwide leadership in promoting the development and sharing of scholarship that enhances marketing education and advances marketing knowledge and practice.
