FGCU Presents Philosophy Lecture Series with a Talk by David Loy
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Philosophy Club, in cooperation with FGCU Honors Program presents "Healing Ecology: A Buddhist Perspective," a talk by internationally renowned Buddhist philosopher David Robert Loy, 6 p.m., Thursday, March 13 in Reed Hall 249. The event is free and open to the public.
Loy is currently the Besl Family chair of Ethics, Religion and Society at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was professor of Philosophy and Religion at Bunkyo University in Japan from 1990 to 2005.
He is an authorized teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan lineage of Zen Buddhism where he received formal koan training from Zen Master Yamada Koun Roshi.
Loy has authored a number of critically-acclaimed books including "Nonduality: A Study in Comparative Philosophy" (Yale University Press, 1988); "Lack and Transcendence: The Problem of Death and Life in Psychotherapy, Existentialism, and Buddhism" (Humanities Press, 1996); "A Buddhist History of the West: Studies in Lack" (State University of New York Press, 2002); and "The Great Awakening: A Buddhist Social Theory" (Wisdom Publications, 2003).
