FGCU Bower School of Music Invites School Board Members, Administrators and Music Educators to Two-Day Conference

FORT MYERS, FL - The Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University invites K-12 music educators, administrators and school board members to participate in a two-day conference Friday through Saturday, May 9 and 10 in Academic Building V. "Solutions for Music Education in Southwest Florida: Dialogues on Music in the Schools for the 21st Century," addresses critical issues that every music education program faces in the State of Florida and in the nation.

The session is 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, and registration begins 2:30 p.m. The session on Saturday is from 8:30 a.m. to noon. R.S.V.P. prior to registration is required by calling (239) 590-7292.

Headlining the conference is Marcia M. Neel, recently retired music supervisor for the Clark County Nevada School District. Neel is CEO of Music Education Consultants based in Las Vegas, Nev. She is a veteran of 36 years in public music education. She has directed successful secondary music programs in Connecticut, Ohio and Nevada. Neel is the recipient of numerous awards. In 2007, the National Association of Music Merchants presented her with the "Distinguished Service to Music Education Award," and the Disney Channel presented her with the "Distinguished Service to Music Education Award" in 1993.

Also presenting is Mary Beth Scow, president of the Clark Nevada School Board of Trustees. Other facilitators include James T. Perry, CEO for the Florida Music Educators Association; Linda Lovins, arts program specialist for the Florida Department of Education; Brian Castellani, principal of Seagate Elementary School in Naples; George Kenney, principal of North Port High School in North Port; Linda Mann, band director at Diplomat Middle School in Cape Coral; Linda Nash, music teacher at Skyline Elementary School in Cape Coral; Angela Roles, principal of Diplomat Middle School; and Todd Peterson, choral director at Barron Collier High School in Naples.
