FGCU Athletics Receives Cars from Estero Bay Chevrolet

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University is pleased to announce that Estero Bay Chevrolet has entered an agreement to provide seven cars to the Athletic Department for the next two years. Use of seven cars for two years is valued at $60,000.

Athletic Director Carl McAloose is excited that the Eagles have won a new friend and generous supporter.

"FGCU athletics is very excited about our new partnership with Charles Winton and Estero Bay Chevrolet," said McAloose. "Because of the location and the cooperation of the personnel at Estero Bay Chevrolet, we believe this will be a very beneficial relationship for both of us. The combination of two outstanding products - Chevy and FGCU athletics - should prove to be a winning team. We look forward to a long lasting partnership with them."

The Estero Bay Chevrolet partners Charles Winton and Pat Denson are equally pleased to work with the University.

"My partner Pat Denson and I have children in school and realize the importance of access to the University in our community," said Winton. "Since becoming part of the FGCU family, I felt it was a good way to show my commitment to the University. General Motors and Chevrolet have always been committed to college athletics. Part of our mission statement includes being an active and productive member of our community."

Athletic coaches use the cars in the performance of their duties including recruiting student athletes, scouting, speaking engagements and sometimes traveling to games.

During the 2007-08 academic year, FGCU had outstanding success in its first year of Division I. The Eagles won three conference championships (volleyball, softball, and baseball) and finished second in two other sports (women's swimming/diving and women's basketball). FGCU student-athletes also excelled in the classroom and in the community, earning a 3.1 cumulative grade point average while putting in over 7,500 hours of community service.
