FGCU Lutgert College of Business Receives Gift from Southwest Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Increases Accounting Endowment

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Lutgert College of Business recently received a generous gift from the Southwest Chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) to further fund the FICPA Southwest Florida Chapter Accounting Endowment, which supports the FGCU accounting degree programs and student scholarships.

Jack Eisenga, president of the Southwest Chapter of FICPA and Mitchell Dannenberg of LTCi Marketplace presented a check for $5,576 to dean of the Lutgert College of Business Richard Pegnetter and professor Ara Volkan, chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance during its monthly meeting at Miromar Lakes.

FICPA is the premier professional organization that promotes integrity, competency, and ethics to all Florida's certified public accountants. The Southwest Florida Chapter includes 850 members from Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. The Southwest Chapter of FICPA has supported the FGCU accounting program since 1996.

The FICPA Southwest Florida Chapter Accounting Endowment at FGCU now exceeds $28,000. The endowment committee awarded Jaclyn Bossi (Naples), Kimberly Delcomyn-Javarinis (Naples) and Susan Watkins (Lakeland) with the most recent scholarships.

"The accounting endowment scholarships are based on academic merit and financial need," said Volkan. "Many recipients are non-traditional age students who are working parents with part-time or full-time jobs. This endowment helps students concentrate more on learning and less on worrying about where the tuition dollars come from."

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting at FGCU prepares students for careers in government, industry, public accounting and service organizations, while the Master of Science in Accounting and Taxation focuses on advanced technical competencies in accounting and/or taxation.
