FGCU Continuing Education and Off Campus Programs Presents “Identifying and Engaging Victims,” First Session of Human Trafficking Symposium Series

WHO FGCU Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs and Center for Public and Social Policy, in partnership with Lee County Sheriff’s Office, for the public

WHAT “Identifying and Engaging Victims,” first session in a series of free continuing
education programs offering practical guidelines for practitioners and the general public seeking a more in-depth understanding of issues and actions related to human trafficking. Sandy Skelaney, program coordinator for Kristi House, Commercially Sexually Exploited Children’s Project, is the presenter for this session.

WHY Participants will learn to:
• Discuss the nature and scope of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE)
• Describe the impact this type of trauma has on children
• Describe appropriate language and sensitivity to the problem
• Discuss how to identify victims of CSE
• Describe the impact of CSEC (Commercially Sexually Exploited Children’s Project) and the needs of the victims
• Describe ways in which service providers can assist the victims

COST Free and open to the public; 3.5 contact hours is available for social workers and licensed
mental health counselors. Continental breakfast will be served. For registration
