FGCU Master's of Public Administration Approved for Accreditation by the National Association of Public Affairs and Administration

FORT MYERS, FL - The Master's of Public Administration (MPA) at Florida Gulf Coast University was recently approved for accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) for a period of seven years, the maximum allowed under the NASPAA guidelines.

The MPA program at FGCU is one of a few online programs in the nation to receive accreditation. The program began in the fall of 1997 and has since graduated over 100 students. It currently has 65 students, many of whom work full-time for state and local governments or non-profit organizations. The majority of the students are from the Southwest Florida region, but because of the online nature of the program, many work in other areas within the state.

There is a great demand for professional public sector managers in the region and the MPA program at FGCU is dedicated to assisting in this effort by graduating high quality public administrators.

"Accreditation of the MPA program at FGCU indicates that our students are on par with students at other Florida programs that are accredited and ensures that our students have the skills that are necessary to compete in the ever changing landscape that is government and non-profit administration," said dean of College of Professional Studies Ken Millar. "In the near future the program plans to offer a certificate program in planning, explore the need for a certificate program in non-profit administration and provide further opportunities for our students through the work of the Southwest Florida Center for Public and Social Policy."

For more information, media representatives should contact Millar at (239) 590-7724.
