B & I Contractors, Inc. Continues to Support the FGCU Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund with a Generous Contribution

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Physical Plant and the FGCU Foundation recently received a second contribution of $5,000 from B & I Contractors, Inc. in support of the Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund. The endowed scholarship will assist qualified students enrolled in environmental studies, civil engineering or environmental engineering.

"We are glad to support the FGCU Physical Plant Scholarship Fund again this year," said Jason N. Grabowski, vice president of B & I Contractors, Inc. "B & I Contractors has always been a strong proponent of higher education and we feel that by supporting this scholarship we are investing in the future generation of well-rounded graduates while providing exposure to the services B & I Contractors provides as a commercial HVAC, electrical and plumbing contractor."

Established in 1960, B & I Contractors is one of the region's premier mechanical contractors. B & I Contractors has been serving FGCU from the beginning by installing mechanical, electrical and plumbing in new and existing buildings on campus.

The continued generosity of B & I Contractors and other donors has made it possible for the selection of two scholarship recipients for the 2008-09 academic year: Krysten Terns, civil engineering, and Keishla Negron-Acevedo, environmental studies. Both scholarship recipients work part-time in Physical Plant, which provides an opportunity for them to interact with the staff while earning valuable work experience on campus.

"It is joyful to work around people who demonstrate their environmental awareness through action, and who comply with environmentally-safe measurements," says Keishla Negron-Avecedo. "I am thankful for being a recipient of the Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship lessens my financial worries and provides assistance for me as I continue my education."

Since 1998, the Physical Plant has employed more than 100 students. Many have worked with the department for their entire FGCU academic career and keep in touch years after graduation. The scholarship program has been an excellent opportunity to build upon this sense of family and to continue to further support student successes.

"I am very appreciative to have received the Physical Plant Scholarship as I have always had a hard time finding financial assistance," says Krysten Terns. "This scholarship has allowed me to help my parents and to purchase new books so I can keep them for reference in my professional career."
