FGCU Hosts "Eagle Family Weekend" Nov. 6-8

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Division of Student Affairs and the Office of New Student Programs invite students, parents, and media to attend the annual Eagle Family Weekend, Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8. Eagle Family Weekend is specifically designed for the parents, siblings, children, friends and families of FGCU students.

Throughout the weekend, there will be activities on and off campus designed for family participation, and many opportunities for families to interact with other members of the campus community.

"The mission of Eagle Family Weekend is to set aside time to reflect on our community and its values, including the diversity of ideas, beliefs and cultures and to strengthen student, parent and family commitments to FGCU in a shared experience," said Cal Majure, assistant director, Division of Student Affairs.

Eagle Family Weekend activities include an official welcome sponsored by the Office of New Student Programs, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6 in the Student Union lobby. Other activities include an opportunity to watch a live performance of "Our Town" (Thornton Wilder) at 8 p.m. at FGCU Arts Complex Black Box Theatre; take a family swim in the Aquatics Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and catch the Bower School of Music, Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union ballroom.

On Saturday, Nov. 6, activities include the Eagle Family Weekend Family FUN Run/Walk, a 5k course that will highlight several parts of the campus. Registration starts at 7 a.m. in front of Alico Arena. Cost is $10 payable by check with your Eagle Family Weekend registration. Waterfront and cultural activities, and a cookout on the Student Services Plaza lawn will be available for all attendees.

The weekend ends with a farewell brunch, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8 at North Lake Village's Eagles Landing. FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw and Mrs. Bradshaw will visit with students and families.
