FGCU Hosts SEC Speaker on Corporate Governance Practices

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Institute for Responsible Corporate Governance invites current and former corporate directors, senior executives, governance professionals and other interested parties to hear and interact with Kayla Gillan, Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Securities & Exchange Commission, as she speaks about changes in corporate governance practices 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13 at the Sugden Welcome Center on campus.

Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. and a speaker reception follows from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants may obtain educational credits from the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Gillan presents "The Controversy Over the SEC's Pending Governance Proposals."

Gillan is a founding board member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), where she served from Jan. 2003 to Jan. 2008, and worked extensively to advocate the needs of investors in the auditing process of U.S. public companies.

She previously was General Counsel for the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), where she spent 16 years working to protect the retirement security for more than 1.5 million public employees. At the SEC, Gillan continues to work for investors, leading multiple projects including the creation of an Investor Advisory Council, reconsidering access to the proxy, and evaluating shareholder advisory votes on executive compensation.
