FGCU Office of Continuing Education and Off Campus Programs Conducts Workshop for Academic Faculty June 21-24

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Office of Continuing Education and Off Campus Programs presents a workshop for academic faculty, "Developing Your Academic Portfolio," June 21-24, Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Holmes Hall, Room 406 on campus, preceded by an informal "mix and mingle" for participants 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 20 on the patio in Academic Building 7.

Widely considered one of the most innovative and promising faculty evaluation and development technique in years, the portfolio is flexible enough to be used for tenure, promotion, and retention and/or to provide the stimulus and structure for areas of performance in need of improvement.

The workshop will be conducted by Peter Seldin, Ph.D., and J. Elizabeth Miller, Ph.D., co-authors of the best-selling book, "The Academic Portfolio" (2009). Seldin, a distinguished professor of management emeritus at Pace University, Pleasantville, N.Y., is a specialist in the evaluation and development of faculty and administrative performance, and has been a consultant on higher education issues to more than 350 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and in 45 countries around the world.

Miller, associate professor of family and child studies at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., has taught a wide range of graduate courses; has extensive experience mentoring faculty members and graduate students; and has been honored on numerous occasions for excellence in teaching.

During the program, Seldin and Miller will guide participants individually as they create their portfolios covering teaching, research/scholarship, and service. This is a hands-on immersion workshop with the objective that participants will develop their academic portfolio to third draft stage by program's end. In addition, participants will have learned how to mentor others so they can bring the process back to their respective campuses.

The Office of Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs will offer a discounted fee of $1,495 before June 1 to local audiences.
