FGCU Art Gallery Opens "Luminous Impressions: Selections from Littleton Studios"

FORT MYERS, FL - The Galleries at Florida Gulf Coast University presents "Luminous Impressions: Selections from Littleton Studios" with an opening reception 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 13. Gallery Talk by guest art faculty curator Andy Owen at 4 p.m. Art Gallery interim director Anica Sturdivant is co-curator. The show runs through Feb. 3.

Vitreography, the method of contemporary printmaking using a glass printing plate, was pioneered by Harvey K. Littleton, acclaimed glass artist and father of the studio glass movement in America. Since 1974, vitreography has been the focus of creative and technical efforts pursued by Harvey Littleton and the painters and printmakers, as well as glass artists and sculptors, invited to work in his studios in the mountains of Spruce Pine, N.C. To date, over 100 artists have collaborated with Littleton Studios to produce hundreds of print editions using the vitreographic process.

Selections have been chosen for viewing at FGCU to illustrate the luminous and inspired work created by 22 of these artists at Littleton Studios. Many have received high levels of recognition both nationally and internationally, and each one brings a personal vision that has been deftly translated while pioneering this printmaking process.

The Art Gallery is located inside the Arts Complex on FGCU's main campus. The University is located off Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, east of I-75 between exits 123 and 128. Parking is available in Lot 7 for gallery visitors; parking passes are available at the parking kiosk located at the University's entrance.

For further information on this exhibition and others, visit the Art Gallery's website:, or contact Anica Sturdivant at (239) 590-7199.
